Sacramento Tree Foundation installs commemorative plaques and trees
As part of the 2023 Clean Energy Hall of Fame Award, the Sacramento Tree Foundation (STF) included a commemorative plaque and tree planting for all award winners, including Rev. Frank Jackson! STF is a nonprofit organization working to grow thriving communities through stewardship of our urban forest. Since 1982, they have planted and tended over 1.5 million trees throughout the Sacramento region. Here is more information about the plaques and planted trees:
The plaques were made from wood derived from STF's Urban Wood Rescue program, that recycles trees destined for the landfill. By reusing these trees, this program diverts logs from the urban waste stream, reduces GHG emissions, and sequesters carbon for longer periods of time.
The six trees were planted at the Keema School for Independent Study, a school located in a disadvantaged community in Sacramento that offers a model where students study independently and whose mission is to help students make self-directed, realistic, responsible decisions and to be successful contributors to society. You can locate the trees on Google Earth or visit them in person with the coordinates below.
